Amigram.com

Clark Howard: So there was a new service that popped up on the web that was free and I have been accused in the past – and I’m guilty as charged - of getting too excited about something’s that a beta or something’s that new before it’s been really well vetted or shown itself to work in the marketplace. So I have adopted a new rule that we adopted, I guess mid-last year, that before I get all excited and start jumping up and down about how wonderful and new and this that and the other is on the web that it’s assigned to somebody on the crew who works with the site to see if it really is something that I should be talking about. Well, we have done just that with Amigram – is that the right way to say it? Amigram? (different pronunciations)
Christa, Executive Producer: Probably Amigram (another pronunciation)because it’s from ami like French for friend.
Clark Howard: (Laugh) Yeah, well my pronunciation in any language, including English, is suspect but would you explain what you discovered about this free site and how it might be useful to people in their lives.
Christa, Executive Producer: It’s really cute. Their tagline is “Life’s Happy Announcements” and it’s basically a site where you can go on if you have anything going on in your life like you had a baby, you got a new pet – which is the same thing to some people – you went on a trip, you started a business.
Clark Howard: Found a bargain shopping?
Christa, Executive Producer: Found a bargain shopping
Clark Howard: No, probably not that
Christa, Executive Producer: You can create an announcement so it essentially creates a web page for you. You can upload a video, you can put pictures on there and then you can email it out to all your friends so they can see it. They can make comments on it. You can make this announcement public so anyone could go on. I went online and looked at some people’s – their engagement announcements, their wedding announcements and so if you want to make it public like that you can. It’s just a cute little free service and they do say they’re not going to sell your info and they’re supported by Google ads.
Clark Howard: So this really is designed - it’s like a life event kind of site where people may have lost track of each other and you’re able or even people who are peripherally in your lives might not know that you had this, that, or the other thing event. You’re able to bring them back into the loop.
Christa, Executive Producer; Yeah, and it’s like if you - say you normally would send out a big email to everyone on your email list if you got a new puppy. This way you’re not just doing that you’re sending them to a page where you’ve put pictures of the puppy or a video of the puppy and they can make comments and see other people’s comments about the new puppy – that kind of thing. So it’s kind of like an email on steroids or something where you’re creating a web site about this event instead of just sending out a notice. So it’s like an interactive thing. And it’s free! We love that.
Clark Howard: Yeah this thing of keeping people who’ve been kind of the periphery on our lives attached to it – I saw a really cute story and I hate that I don’t remember where I saw it but…(show transitions to different topic)
